Warning, there a lot of photos of trees in this post! This weekend we went to Stourhead in Wiltshire, to start making the most of our National Trust membership.

Therefore, happy thing number 1 is our trip to Stourhead!

1 – Stourhead – just look at those stunning colours, isn’t it just spectacular?? Huge brownie points to the landscape gardener – I wish our garden was half as colourful and grand as this (although of course on a much smaller scale…).stourhead, national trust, house, gardens, beauty, nature, green, trees, lake, uk, england, travel adventure

We spent almost the entire day at Stourhead, which we really weren’t expecting to do. We definitely underestimated how huge this place would be. I had a great time milling through the gardens and getting lost in old rocky tunnels. Just look at that happy face!

2 – The library at Stourhead House. Yep, it deserves its own number! The library at Stourhead is so beautiful – it’s like it was plucked straight out of the set of Beauty and the Beast. With its towering bookcases and moving ladders, not to mention hundreds of beautifully bound books, this place is just perfect.

3 – Making it to the top of King Alfred’s tower. Arriving just as they had shut for the day, the keeper on the door allowed us into King Alfred’s tower, as long as we promised to be up and back down within 10 minutes. Easy peasy we said. Only 206 spiralling steps to race up – no problem. Ha. Cut to us reaching the top, and my legs were literally like jelly, I couldn’t breathe, and I thought I might pass out. Let’s just say I’m not at peak fitness levels right now, but still, those 206 steps were a killer!

The views from the top more than made up for the tough ascent though, you can see for miles from the tower’s highest point.

4 – Fudgehenge! Isn’t it a masterpiece? I had to do a double-take when I saw this in a shop window in Salisbury – how cute!salisbury, stonehenge, fudgehenge, fudge, uk, england, travel, adventure

5 – A quick stop by Salisbury Cathedral. I’ve always loved cathedrals and their grand architecture, and it makes me a little sad that things like this just aren’t built anymore.
